The Need
St James Mission has lots of water but it is 100 metres below ground.
The water is pumped up from boreholes which are now getting old and in need of repair. The pumps are driven by electric motors – fine except for the frequent power cuts now experienced in Zimbabwe. It was this problem that caused the school to have to close early last December. Also the ancient Lister diesel engines for the pumps need repairing or replacing. The 600 girl students are very clean and love their showers, albeit cold! Water is also required for toilets and cooking of course.
The Answer
The solution is threefold:
1
|
Provide power from a generator, either by repairing the existing one and linking it to the motors, or by buying another.
|
2
|
Increase the water storage capacity with a new reservoir.
|
3
|
Sink a new borehole which costs about £12,000.

The Friends of St James are appealing for help for this cause to supplement grants already made.Your donation will help to keep the Mission functioning fully in these difficult times in Zimbabwe.
