The committee next met by teleconference on Sat 20 November 2010
Paula warmly welcomed Janice Armstrong (co-opted) to the committee. Janice taught at St James in the 1980s and has returned to visit the Mission since then.
The committee noted with great sadness the passing of Margaret Bradley, a great supporter of FSJMS over the years. David had received an exceptionally generous donation of over £1,000 from Paul Bradley, collected in lieu of flowers from mourners. The committee expressed their great thanks to Paul.
Paula had written to Mike and Lesley Coppin thanking them for their contribution to FSJMS over many years.
Two girls had now been nominated by the school to receive the sponsorship provided by the Cowley Fathers. It was noted that the Cowley Fathers wished to receive regularly a copy of the girls’ school reports and/or a letter from them.
Gravestones were once again discussed. Paula was asked to contact Fr Ncube and ask him to confirm whether Monica and Francis Boatwright were buried under the alter and to search the St James’ Church records for evidence of dates of death and burial for the persons buried in the garden of rest.
Melusi Sibanda was coming to stay with Jane Campbell to research a book he is proposing to write about Eelin Beardall. The committee were asked to consider whether they had any useful photographs or information that they could pass on to Melusi (via Jane or Stephen) to assist in his work.
The Committee recorded its thanks to Connie Reed for further changes she had made to the FSJMS website.
Paula had met with Alison Warner, chair of LINK, and shared information about FSJMS and LINK and had also talked through Alison’s recent visit (with +Richard) to Zimbabwe and St James. Paula felt it was helpful to Alison to be able to explain how the FSJMS committee is organised and how we work. Paula had separately circulated an update on her meeting to FSJMS committee members.
